Here is what to expect:
- Leonard will ensure all students get to participate in the program. From a full school assembly, or a day in the library or media center by grade, Leonard’s program can last 40 minutes to an hour depending on the structure and grade level. He prefers to visit each grade individually (50-100 kids per grade) as students can get an interactive experience…especially at Q and A time.
-
The order forms and book flier links AuthorVisitandOrderForm and Flying Fish 1 Sheet-2 will be sent to your school and can be printed out, then delivered to all students and parents through newsletters, homework folders and emails. Leonard will hang posters and signs before he visits, as well as a sample book.
- Leonard charges NO VISITATION FEE. He only asks that his books be available for purchase. One book will be donated to the school library for students to check out on their own.
- The program starts where writing starts, when we are young. Leonard shares his experience as an elementary school student feverishly writing stories, and the creative inspiration that develops into a story. He shares his first book that he built himself when he was in 4th grade (The Giraffe Of Hearts) that was one of four stories chosen to be presented at the University of Oregon’s Young Author’s Conference.
- Leonard connects experiences and life with inspiration. He presents his merchant marine industry with multi-media videos and photos of his ships and the creative inspiration and message behind “The Fish Who Could Fly: A Tale Of Discovery.”
- Leonard describes influences and mentors, why we write, and what other author’s books can mean to us personally.
- After reading his book, the classes can ask questions about any and all topics covered, sometimes even topics that were not covered!
- All books purchased will be dedicated, signed and distributed to the students that day. Leonard leaves the ordering open for the following week after his visitation to ensure all students get a chance at purchasing a book (lots want a book after Leonard has read it)!
-
NEW ADDITION- The brave little Flying Fish has just flown in from Leonard’s ship! He will be available now along with the book. We are pleased to welcome “Fiddley” as part of our collectables in the Flying Fish series.
